About

This project came to life as a homework assignment, but it became a ~~lot~~ bit more. The application is made using only with the latest and greatest stuff the Android platform has to offer.

Getting the app

We will publish a release here on GitHub shortly, but until then your best bet is to consult Building.

Aim

Our current goal is to ship a version that is usable for anyone that is a bit techie and doesn’t mind a few bugs here and there.

We’d like to create an open source alternative to FightClub or 5E spells with feature parity.

This work is GPL licenced, so keep that in mind if you would like to fork this project for SW5e or other RPG-s. With that in mind Nimtome is heavily dependent on FightClub’s XML spec and that is not likely to change in the future.

Obtaining the spell list

We are in the process of creating a download option for the spells included in 5E SRD as well as community-made XML files as long as it doesn’t get us into trouble.

Right now your best bet is The Archivist’s spell list that is available on gumroad. These spells won’t look just right in Nimtome as they are a bit all over the place. WIP: We’ve created a python script that converts that (or any) spell list made for FC to a much more computer friendly version.

Building

Dependencies and building are managed by gradle and Android Stuido. You can clone this project and build it locally like any android project.

Color Themes, and Main Menu overhaul
The current version had the TopBar and StatusBar and NavigationBar colors were inconsistent. Now they are.

This PR sets the StatusBar color to the primary color. NavigationBar is set to be background instead.

Recreate Character Selector with Compose

Better subclassing support

Current state

We have little to no support for subclassing now. Except for those subclasses that are the only spellcasting ones for a class i.e.: Eldritch Warrior for Fighter.

Proposed solution

Have all the subclasses available as selectable options while creating the character.

It would look like the class selector we have now, just updated with the currently selected class' subclasses.

Add spell list downloading
Add a new feature that lets users download spells instead of choosing a local file to import.

We should have a static gist that contains all the downloadable lists (links and names for them, this is what the app would first query to show what the user can download)

Add a spell list thats useable for testing both this feature and the app in general (Would make development much easier)

In the future we could also add all the freely available spells from DndBeyond to a downloadable spell list.

Also by hosting xml files on github we could refrain from having to run our own servers for a while longer.
