FAQ

Q: Google Feed not working!

A: Make sure the Google App is installed. If the app is installed, make sure the feed is enabled by clicking Settings> Home Widget > Show Google App. If the app is installed and enabled, try restarting the Launcher and if still does not work, restart the phone.

  • Updating an app causes the app icon to reset to the system's default one

Updating an app causes the app icon to reset to the system's default one

    Description

When I update any app, the app logo/icon in the launcher changes to the default Android one. This issue does not occur in the standard launcher (here: GrapheneOS launcher3).

    Expected Behavior

The app icon should update to the one packagacked in the new version (in most cases just stay the same).

    Actual Behavior

The app icon distinguishes and gets replaced by the app logo that shows when an app has no icon set.

    Steps to Reproduce

    1. Download & install Neo-Launcher 0.9.2

    2. Set Neo-Launcher as the default start app

    3. Update an installed app 3a) Download & install an old version of e.g. Molly 3b) Update the installed app to a newer version (in case of Molly for example version 5.44.5-1)

    Device and OS

    • Device: Google Pixel 6a
    • Android version: 13
    • Launcher version: 0.9.2

  • Crash when dragging an app icon with dynamic content (clock)

Crash when dragging an app icon with dynamic content (clock)

As of 0.6.2 (installed via the kindly provded F-Droid package), dynamic icons are shown, e. g. the clock app's icon now shows the current time. But: As soon as one holds the icon to e. g. move it, Omega crashes. Happens each time, and both for trying to drag around an icon on the desktop or from the drawer.

  • [Feature Suggestion] Theme Icons and Material You

[Feature Suggestion] Theme Icons and Material You

Hey! Are there any plans to add support for Theme Icons like lawnicons (and it's derivatives) and Material You support? I hope they can be implemented as it's the only 2 features holding me back from switching from Lawnchair.

Edit: I could attempt to PR it if needed though I'm not too familiar with Kotlin

  • Custom corner radius on desktop widgets

Custom corner radius on desktop widgets

    Hello!

This PR adds an option to change the corner radius for widgets on the desktop.

In the Desktop settings, a new "Widget corner radius" configuration option has been added. This allows the user to change the corner radius of the widget to anything between 0dp and 24dp. The default corner radius for widgets is still the same as it is in the base branch, 16dp.

[Image] Widget corner radius setting [Image] Widgets with a 5dp corner radius [Image] Resize widget box matches the custom widget radius

Would resolve feature request ticket 231.

    Thanks!

  • App icons disappear over time

    App icons disappear over time

After using the launcher for a day or so, app icons begin to disappear and are instead replaced with a template icon. I have not been able to find a work around that does not involve uninstalling the app or completely resetting the launcher.

    Screenshot_20220810-021259.png

This issue seems to mainly occur with apps that have full size icons, and not legacy smaller icons. Not all apps lose their icons at once. Instead, it seems to happen at random for some apps.

  • [feature request] Add optional date bar

[feature request] Add optional date bar

    Description

I would like to have a date bar similar to the one open launcher (com.benny.openlauncher) has. 2_OpenLauncher In Openlauncher this date bar is accessible from every desktop site and tapping on it will open the calendar app. You can choose the date format and text color via the settings: 3_OpenLauncher 4_OpenLauncher 5_OpenLauncher 6_OpenLauncher

    Expected Behavior

Such a date bar with the customization options similar to openlauncher would be great.

    Actual Behavior

There is no such date bar. 1_Omega_Launcher I actually use it a lot, especially the "tab to open calendar" function.

  • Suggestions for auto-hiding apps, miscellaneous enhancements

Suggestions for auto-hiding apps, miscellaneous enhancements

I've been using Zim for several months, and I just found that you started Omega. So far, it's the best launcher I've EVER used because of the "categories" feature in the drawer. This is something I have always wanted, but no one has done it well. You nailed it!

I have a some suggestions and enhancements. None of them are "requests" - I don't want to seem like I am making demands. I just have some ideas that I think would make your launcher even better!

When I organize my apps, I prefer to have them only be displayed in one location and be hidden everywhere else. I know some people are different, but it keeps things simple for me. With this in mind, here are some ideas for options you could provide:

    • If an app is added to the desktop or the dock, automatically add it to the "Hidden App Shortcuts" list.
    • Only allow apps to be in one category.
      • When creating a new category, the "Manage apps" picker would only show apps that are in the main "Apps" tab. Apps that are in other categories would be hidden.
    • If an app is in the "Hidden App Shortcuts" list, hide it from the "Manage apps" picker when creating categories.
      • This is more of a bug. Currently, you can add hidden apps to a category. However, hidden apps are hidden globally for the entire drawer, so it doesn't show up in the new drawer category. Any hidden app should be filtered out of the the "Manage apps" picker when creating the category.

I hope those make sense. Feel free to ask for clarification, though. I can manually accomplish all of these functions on my own, but it would be nice to have options in the app settings that would let me automatically hide and filter out apps in the ways I described.

Here are a few other miscellaneous ideas that are all low-priority:

    • If the "Drawer search bar" is disabled, there is still an empty space where the search bar used to be. Shifting the drawer up so the space isn't wasted would be better.

    • Add an option to have the drawer open to the first category by default (it currently opens to the last viewed category)

    • There is something wrong . . . "wrong" with text wrapping on app names. For instance, the ProtonMail label shows up as: ProtonM ail

I don't know the best way to solve this. Let users adjust the text size of app names? Automatically decrease font size to fit the space? Let app names extend beyond the boundaries of the app icon? I don't know, but it looks weird.

    • Provide an "Add app" option to the menu that appears when long-pressing the home screen. This would pull up an app picker.

    • Add a ⋮ menu after the last category label in the drawer.

      • This menu would show "Drawer Settings" and "Launcher Settings"
      • It's a bit of a pain to have to go home, long-press, hit "Home settings," edit the drawer, check to see if it looks right, and if not, go home, long-press . . . This button would solve that problem.
    • The "Apps Sort" setting is global for all categories in the drawer.

      • It would be nice to allow each category to be sorted differently.
      • A "manual sort" feature where the user can arrange apps in the order they prefer would be a nice option.

Sorry to write so much, but I hope this helps, and I appreciate your work!

    Fastlane: TR full_descriptions need formatting

I just noticed that the Turkish full_description.txt files are not rendering properly due to missing line breaks – i.e. it lacks an empty line before and after the bullet-pont list, turning the entire description into a single paragraph. I've fixed that manually in my repo for now, but you might wish to correct that here, too (else it would overwrite my corrections one day).
