Arrow Endpoint offers a composable Endpoint datatype, that allows us easily define an Endpoint from which we can derive clients, servers & documentation.

Rationale

When working on functional applications we care about function signatures, in the domain of endpoints this boils down to suspend (Input) -> Either<Error, Output>.

This signature models any endpoint that takes an Input, and returns with either a domain Error, an Output or an unknown Throwbale from the suspend side effect. Where Error means a return with StatusCode outside of the 2xx range

So we want to be able to work with Endpoint as such. So given the definition of an Endpoint<Input, Error, Output> we want to be able to:

  • Derive a client with shape suspend (Input) -> Either<Error, Output>
  • Derive a server that runs suspend (Input) -> Either<Error, Output>
  • Provide http documentation in the desired shape

    Add failing tests for OpenApi serialization

    The current example doesn't run because we cannot serialize OpenApi class. After some digging I found out it is failed because of Response class.

    The simplest test is MediaType one. It seems Kotlinx Serializer picking the wrong Seriliazer when trying to serialize Schema.

  • Fixing the release process

    Fixing the release process

    This pull request solves the issue preventing Arrow Endpoint artifacts from being published in Maven repositories. The workaround involves several actions:

    • Add two new secrets to the GitHub repository for the Sonatype user and password
    • Rename the POM name property within the gradle.properties files to pom.name
    • Rename the modules by adding the prefix arrow-endpoint, so the artifacts are clearly identified

    Additionally, it removes two environment variables from the workflow that publishes the Maven artifacts because they were no longer required. And it renames the folders that contain the implementations for the WebFlux server and client to include the webflux label consistently.

Note it affects only List and primitive collection such as IntArray types. With this feature, it is now possible to decode Proto3 messages, where all repeated fields are packed by default. Protobuf schema generator also supports new @ProtoPacked annotation.
